Background & Inspiration

I use an open D tuning for this song, which I wrote in 2010 and played at my wedding that October. Some songs are written quickly and some develop over a good deal of time. This song’s music took an hour or so to structure, but it has a set of lyrics that I kept revising time and time again, constantly making subtle changes. With a title and a purpose like this, what better anchor to this CD could there be?

Lyrics

Say good-bye, Say good-bye

To all the pain that taught you not to cry.

Say hello, Say hello,

To filling up your heart by letting go.

Say hello to happiness.

Say hello to what comes next.

Say good-bye to doubt and shame.

Say good-bye to what’s his name.

Say good-bye, Say good-bye

To feeling like the world might pass you by.

Say hello, Say hello,

To love you thought your heart would never know.

Say hello to earth and sea.

Say hello to you and me.

Say good-bye to guilt and blame.

Say good-bye to what’s her name.

(Chorus) The time is drawing near.

Love is waiting here.

Our dream has come to pass.

Say hello to Best and Last.

I can’t seem to tell you why

We heard our hearts but kept on waiting.

But when our walls came tumbling down

They revealed a love amazing.

Say good-bye, Say good-bye

To all the pain that taught you not to cry.

Say hello, Say hello,

To filling up your heart by letting go.

Say hello to happiness.

Say hello to what comes next.

Say hello to earth and sea.

Say hello to you and me.

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

Say hello to Best and Last.

Say hello to Best and Last.

Say hello to Best and Last.

Say hello to Best and Last.
